Gamba pastry shop
Martinengo, Bergamo, Italy
Founded in 1958 in Romano di Lombardia (Bergamo) by Luigi Gamba and his wife Colomba, the Gamba pastry shop moved to Martinengo in 1962, where it has been located for over 60 years.
After more than 40 years of business, Luigi Gamba passed the baton to his daughter Gigliola and son-in-law Rinaldo, capable of giving continuity to a work based on an incessant search for raw materials and a passion for the craftsmanship of the products, maintaining the strong flavor of the high-quality pastry tradition, which can be breathed every day of the week under the arcades of the historic Piazza Maggiore in Martinengo.
In its third generation, the management of the pastry shop is now supported by their daughter Giorgia, who has entrusted the architect Massimiliano Gamba with the task of rethinking the store, to best characterize a historic “place” that interprets a renewed tradition.
The character of the place and the atmosphere is thus defined by a refined but minimal language, which stands out for its attention to detail, for a wise lighting and for the use of natural materials, such as walnut wood, grey carnic marble and brass. Always looking for the balance between the principles informing the project and the practice of costruction, between theory and practice, between formal intuition and executive solution and technological choice, respecting the existing constraints and the pre-established spending limits.
